Agile digitizing
Agile, continuous improvement in digitizing business processes
Agile is a popular term used in the software world by developers and providers of software. It is actually a response to the poor reputation of software vendors on projects. These almost always run out of time and cost far more than the original budget. And to make matters worse, the end result often does not meet the end user’s needs. Why is this and what does this mean, for example, for the rise of no-code software applications?
The meaning of Agile
Changes in today’s world are accelerating. This, of course, can also affect business processes in organizations. Working arrangements and instructions are relatively easy to adapt in this regard. But it becomes different when activities are supported by software applications that are cast in concrete. Here, the software determines the business process. Employees often seek refuge in (Excel) help lists. With Agile digitization, however, we put people at the center and are able to make the desired changes quickly in the software application. That sounds good, but then what are the pitfalls in Agile digitizing business processes.
Agile information management, a considered choice
Almost every organization uses an ERP system. This is an excellent digital solution to standardize financial or logistical transactions in an organization. However, this core data is the end result of underlying business processes. For example, the percentage of downtime in a manufacturing process affects the inventory available in the ERP system. But as an organization, you also want to know the reason for downtime and what measures have been taken to prevent it in the future. This does not fit into regular ERP systems and customization is expensive and requires maintenance and monitoring by ICT professionals. This is example where a smart no-code application can be used to build an Agile solution. Quality during production is fully monitored and recorded with a smart digital form. Here it is even possible to automatically inform management in case of specific results or have an investigation started. Of course, the necessary information is exchanged real-time with the ERP system via an API. Once an organization has experienced the power and simplicity of this approach, they themselves come up with similar examples from the maintenance process, employee time sheets or project management. And here too one can use the same Agile forms.
PDCA: Keep it simple and thoughtful
Good preparation is half the battle goes a well-known saying. In digitization projects, this is an optimistic view. However, with years of experience in automating business processes using the smart digital no-code forms tool, we apply the guideline that 90% of the development time is spent on the query. Only 10% of the time is needed for the actual configuration within the application. The inventory is always done in close cooperation with the end users and requires a good understanding of the actual process. With “less is more” in mind, we first consider what information we want to collect and how the flow of information within the business process is distributed and enriched during the execution of the work. And, of course, the desired reports are also considered. Now that’s Agile digitization.
Discover the possibilities
Work is never finished and can always be improved. With the Agile approach to digitalization of business processes, the continuous improvement process is easily carried out by the organization itself. And this ensures commitment and fast results.
