1 Introduction

Sometimes it is convenient or necessary to turn a completed digital form into a neat hard copy or Excel/pdf file.

Creating a form report requires an Excel report template.

The report template defines the format of the particular report.

2 Methods

Create an empty blank file within Excel.

  • Rename “sheet 1” to “Data”
  • Save the file under the name “BlankExport”
  • Add the file to LeanForms via “Management”, “Report Templates”

    • Next, link the “Blank Export” template with the form via “Form > ” properties.
  • On the user side, the form can now be opened. At the top, the “Export to Excel” button is now visible. This will automatically export the questions and answers to Excel.

Rename the file name “Excel Export” to an appropriate new template name.

Add a new worksheet and name it, for example, as “Report.”

Then create the desired formatting of your form in this worksheet.

The data will be copied from the “data” worksheet using the usual functionality within Excel.

If satisfied with the formatting (also consider print settings) then save the file as follows

  • Delete all data on worksheet “Data”.
  • Then save the file.

Add this new template to LeanForms and link it to the form in question (i.e., you are replacing the blank template).

Optionally, specify if you want the export as a pdf file.

The form report is now ready for the end user.

3 Points of attention and tips

Macros can also be included in the Excel file. These are opened only after you download the file and enable them manually.

Images and photos can also be included in a form report. For this, see “5.1 Specials”
