Certifying Body
A certifying body (or certification body, often abbreviated as CB) is an organization that evaluates and certifies/attests an organization’s management system, process and/or product against the published standard/assessment guideline and any additional documentation on which the quality system is based.
A CB can be accredited to issue some certificates and seals of approval. The requirements for certification bodies are to ensure that audits are conducted impartially, independently and competently.
Sometimes government regulations require products or services to have a certificate. For example, products that require a certificate for safety before they are put on the market. Assessment takes place on the basis of ground rules laid down in the certification scheme.
